Beyond the IQ Score: How Cognitive Profiles Turn Assessment Data into Interventions That Reach Every Child

Beyond the IQ Score: How Cognitive Profiles Turn Assessment Data into Interventions That Reach Every Child

Cognitive assessment often gets criticized for producing a score without a plan. In this session, Dr. Katy Genseke explains how a full cognitive profile can change that. Drawing on CHC theory, she walks through the abilities that sit beneath a composite score, including working memory, processing speed, and auditory processing, and shows how each connects to specific, practical classroom strategies. Educators and support teams will leave with a clearer way to match instruction to how individual students actually learn.

    Continuing Education Credit:
Participants who attend majority of the live session will be eligible to receive CEUs. Additional details regarding CE credit requirements and documentation will be provided during the webinar

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Differentiate between a composite score and a cognitive profile and explain how a profile of broad abilities shows how a child processes information and points to specific, actionable interventions.
    2. Identify the eight CHC broad abilities and recognize their corresponding classroom presentations.
    3. Translate cognitive profile data into specific, actionable instructional shifts, applying the "engine vs. fuel" framework to match teaching strategies to a child's individual cognitive strengths and needs, particularly for students who have not responded to standard interventions.
